Privacy Policy

UniSpouse is a non-commercial platform operated by an individual founder based in the UK. We take privacy seriously, particularly because we handle sensitive personal data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we protect it.

Who we are

UniSpouse is a non-commercial UK platform helping Muslim university students and recent alumni find a marriage partner in a sharia-conscious way. It is operated by an individual founder. Contact: davlatshoshirinbekov@outlook.com

What data we collect

We collect the following when you use UniSpouse:

  • Account data: email address and password (hashed - we never store your plain password).
  • University email: your UK university email address (ending in .ac.uk), used solely to verify you are a real UK student by sending you a confirmation link. We do not collect or store passports, driving licences, or student ID cards.
  • Profile data: a written profile, a profile photo, and structured questionnaire answers (age, ethnicity, nationality, religious practice, etc.).
  • Contact details: your own contact information (brothers) or your wali's contact information (sisters). This is revealed only to a mutually matched user - never displayed publicly.
  • Payment data: payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store card numbers. We retain a record that payment was made and the Stripe subscription ID.
  • Usage data: standard server logs (IP address, pages visited). These are retained for a short period for security purposes.

Special category data

Under UK GDPR, some of the data we process is special category data - specifically religion, ethnicity, and health/disability information (wheelchair user field). We process this data on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you create your profile. You may withdraw consent and delete your account at any time from the Settings page, which permanently purges all your data.

How we use your data

  • · To verify your eligibility (UK Muslim student or recent alumnus).
  • · To display your profile to other verified members.
  • · To reveal contact details when you and another member both express mutual interest.
  • · To process your £0.99 membership payment via Stripe.
  • · To send transactional emails (email verification, match notifications, expiry reminders) via Resend.
  • · To investigate reports of misconduct.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose.

Data retention

  • · University email: retained while your account is active. Deleted permanently when you delete your account.
  • · Profile data: retained while your account is active. Deleted permanently when you delete your account.
  • · Profile photos: retained while your account is active, stored encrypted. Deleted on account deletion.
  • · Payment records: retained for 7 years for legal/accounting purposes (UK requirement).

Who we share data with

We use the following third-party services:

  • · Neon (database): hosts our PostgreSQL database in the EU.
  • · Cloudflare R2 (file storage): stores profile photos, encrypted at rest.
  • · Anthropic (AI review): sisters' profile photos are sent to Anthropic's API for automated modesty review. Images are not retained by Anthropic beyond processing.
  • · Stripe (payments): handles all payment processing. Subject to Stripe's own privacy policy.
  • · Resend (email): sends transactional emails on our behalf.
  • · Vercel (hosting): hosts the web application.

We do not sell your data to any third party.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • · Access the personal data we hold about you.
